Hagenbeck Zoo

Zoo and tropical aquarium - Hagenbeck's animalistic original.

Feeding elephants and giraffes, watching polar bears and walruses dive, horseback riding ponies and petting baby goats- these are only some of the activities for the visitors of Hagenbeck Zoo. It is home to more than 1860 animals from all around the world. The zoo has been entertaining visitors of all ages for more than 100 years with 25 hectares of parks, botanical variety, landmarked panoramas, open air enclosures and cultural buildings. There are show performances which reveal interesting facts about the animals and you may also feed elephants and giraffes. The polar waters at the zoo are the coolest place in Hamburg. You have insight above and below the water surface on more than 8000 square meters and can watch polar bears, king penguins, sea dogs and the group of Germany’s first and only zoo born walruses with their families.

The tropical aquarium is right next door with snakes gliding and winding their way through the shrubs, lemurs partying amongst the visitors and birds flying through the humid and warm air. It is an expedition on 8000 square meters along the equator. The underwater world houses more than 2 million liters of water and is home to sharks, morays and a colorful coral reef. Dive into the breathtaking world of the exotic and experience more than 14 300 animals on land, at sea and in caves.
