HAMILTON - the musical

Don't miss this show: HAMILTON, winner of 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, has already enjoyed tremendous success on New York's Broadway, in Chicago and in London. Now you can experience the critically acclaimed musical production about the American founding father Alexander Hamilton live in Hamburg in a German adaptation.

History meets modernity: Lin-Manuel Miranda's award-winning Broadway success about the rise and fall of Alexander Hamilton, an American founding father, surprises with an unprecedented mix of different musical styles: rap, hip hop, R&B, pop, soul and jazz. This special mix, paired with unique historical costumes and a rousing choreography, catapults the historical material into the here and now and makes HAMILTON a musical that you have to see.

This musical hits the zeitgeist like no other. The historic story of love, strength and friendship is poured into a monumental stage production that, thanks to the music and voices of modern times, cannot be more up-to-date. After an energetic premiere celebrated by HAMILTON creator Lin-Manuel Miranda along with many prominent guests, HAMILTON is now playing eight times a week at the Stage Operettenhaus. Guests of honor such as author Sophie Passmann, neighborhood legend Olivia Jones and actor Jannik Schümann share their impressions in the video. To put it in Joja Wendt's words: “The music totally took me away. One might think that the English language is better suited to be more dotted and rhythmic, but I think they did a great job with the German language. I'm really blown away when it comes to that. The music is rough nice.”.

Winner of 11 Tony Awards

HAMILTON tells the exciting story of the rise and fall of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America - probably the most interesting and dazzling. As a Caribbean immigrant, he works his way up to the top with courage, charm and intelligence, becomes George Washington's aide-de-camp in the course of his life, marries into one of the most respected families in the country and fights against the English in the War of Independence.

Heroic, epic, massive

As co-author of the new constitution and first Secretary of the Treasury in the USA, he decisively shaped the character of the young nation. Both Hamilton's family life and his political career are exposed to numerous ups and downs due to his stormy temperament. His feud with his former friend and later political opponent, Aaron Burr, culminated in a dramatic duel on the morning of July 11, 1804, in which he died. But Eliza Hamilton, Alexander's widow, keeps his memory alive.
