Mönckebergstraße - the famous shopping street in the heart of Hamburg
Everyday thousands of people browse through here, especially for tourists this is a must see location. The Mönckebergstraße is the best known shopping street in Hamburg and 800 meters long. It is right in the city center. Not only are there regular shops, cafés and restaurants, but also historical businesses are located on this street.
There is a lot of beautiful architecture to be seen. The “Klöpperhaus“ for example was built in 1913 and is one of the oldest office buildings in Hamburg, designed after the early office buildings in Chicago. Another office building is the “Levantehaus”, awarded “Hamburg’s most beautiful building front” in 2000 by the historic monuments protection authority.
The central location of the Mönckebergstraße enables easy access to everywhere else, by taxi, bus, underground or train.
