Schmidt's Tivoli - Experience Culture and Music
The legendary cult theater on the Reeperbahn
Schmidts TIVOLI on Hamburg’s Spielbudenplatz is the dazzling, irreverent, and heartwarming living room of St. Pauli. As a true cultural institution, this private theater blends nostalgic vaudeville charm with modern energy and embodies exactly what makes Hamburg special: cosmopolitanism, tolerance, and a healthy dose of joie de vivre. Here, tourists and true local characters sit side by side with a cool drink to experience top-notch in-house productions, comedy, and musical theater up close.
The success story began in 1991, when Corny Littmann and his team opened the theater in a magnificent Wilhelminian-style building. At a time when the Reeperbahn had a rough reputation, the founders brought art and glamour to the neighborhood and played a key role in transforming the entertainment district into a vibrant cultural hub. The biggest milestone came in 2003 with “Heiße Ecke” – The St. Pauli Musical. This declaration of love for the district has been running continuously ever since, has thrilled millions of people, and has long been a legendary cultural treasure of the Hanseatic city. Without the TIVOLI, a huge piece of Hamburg’s heart would be missing.
