Carsystem Amerika

Das Verkehrsleitsystem im Amerika-Abschnitt - warnt nicht nur vor Staus, sondern auch vor Sperrungen und Buschbränden.

The second largest car system is installed in the American section.

Likewise, the heart of the system is a staging area of almost 300 spaces. It can be reached via a four-lane freeway. Next to the high volume of traffic, the highlight of this freeway is the traffic management system, the fire department services going to an accident causing a traffic jam (up to 52 vehicles – 8 metres of congestion) and the brush fire.

If you are interested in the traffic management system, you should have a look at the Traffic Light System Weekly Report.

Leaving the freeway, the vehicles take the interstate towards Las Vegas. The car system has more highlights to offer such as the crossing of the Grand Canyon (oncoming vehicles have to deal with the situation) or the street built on wood pickets through the Everglades. Moreover, a fully computer-controlled uploading of trucks on a train, a so-called “rolling street”, was realized in this layout part. Up to five trucks drive independently onto the train. After being loaded, the train rolls with its heavy cargo through the Wunderland and returns at an indefinite time in order to unload the trucks once again. Whether the Americans believe that a fire can be fought faster the more blue lights that the fire engines have, we can’t really say. Anyway, our little, mobile US fire engines have up to 62 lamps. The vehicles of the New York Fire Department served as examples for our fire engines. Each individual lamp of the vehicles was exactly placed on the models and programmed according to the real blinking order. This was done in cooperation with the New York Police Department. We had to extensively readjust the controlling software in order to permit the typical American "Road Trains", trucks with up to three trailers, to drive on American streets without the risk of collisions or accidents. This part has, just like Knuffingen, a charging station with 16 charging lanes along with over 200 turnouts. The total length of the roads are 305 meters. More than 70 simultaneously moving vehicles can be on the streets without traffic jams forming.

History of the Wunderland

Frederik Braun and his then-girlfriend and today's wife were visiting the alpine city of Zurich in July 2000. Sauntering together through the alleys of Zurich's town center, they came across a railway model shop, which at once evoked childhood memories in Frederik.

During the following hours, the idea of realizing the long forgotten childhood dream became more and more mature.
