General questions about experiences

  • Do I need to buy an experience for each person?

If you choose to book an experience with admission, you must also book an experience (Backstage Tour or Virtual Reality) for everyone in your group. Exceptions are only made if children are too young (see the age recommendation for the respective experience) or are unable to participate due to physical limitations (e.g., a person in a wheelchair or epilepsy). These individuals can, of course, enter with the group and do not have to wait outside. This exception applies to a maximum of 2 people.

The 10-minute VR experience can be booked consecutively so that a parent can always supervise the children. You can book this experience at the same time. For other experiences, please book sufficiently far apart to ensure supervision. You can find more information during the ticket booking process.

To book this, first select all participants during the ticket booking process. When you click on the experience date, select the "INDIVIDUAL PERSONS" option. Here, you can select admission only for a maximum of two people, provided they fall under the exceptions described above.

  • Will there be a waiting period if I book an experience?

By booking an experience, you'll receive priority entry with no waiting time. You can enter Wunderland on your booked day whenever you like during opening hours.

However, the experience has a fixed time slot and cannot be booked at any time. Please keep this in mind when booking. The time of your experience is also NOT the same as the time your visit begins!

When booking a Backstage Tour, you must arrive at Wunderland at least 30 minutes before the tour starts. The tour does not begin at the entrance, and you must leave your jackets, bags, and backpacks at the cloakroom or in the lockers.

For the Virtual Reality Experience, it doesn't matter whether you do it at the beginning, end, or during your visit. We definitely recommend the latter, and in this case, you should also arrive at Wunderland at least 30 minutes beforehand. There is direct access from Wonderland, and you can return to the exhibition afterward. Here too, jackets, bags, and backpacks must be left in a locker or stored away. Since we have very limited space in our VR area, we recommend using the facilities in Wonderland.

By the way, "at least" also means you can enter anytime before the VR experience begins. 😉

  • Can I cancel an experience?

Generally, experiences, like tickets, are non-refundable. However, you can reschedule them free of charge up to 24 hours before your booked appointment. After that, rescheduling is no longer possible. We are unable to fill any gaps at short notice.

  • Can I reschedule/postpone an experience?

YES, this is possible free of charge up to 24 hours before the booked appointment.

  • Are there any restrictions?

Unfortunately, YES, because the backstage tours run through the narrow service corridors behind the model railway:

Therefore, there are some groups of people who cannot participate in our backstage tours:

    • People with a large build and women in late pregnancy – the narrowest point behind the model railway is 30 cm wide (between the wall and the layout). As a guideline, a total weight of approximately 120 kg is recommended, although body size is more important than weight.
    • Infants and toddlers (participation is only possible from age 6 due to the risk of injury and limited visibility)
    • Children under 12 years of age (only when accompanied by an adult)
    • People with reduced mobility
    • People who suffer from claustrophobia (fear of open spaces) or circulatory problems

Want to skip a small part of the "Little Wonders" tour

    • People with pacemakers or other electronic implants | Please inform your guide!

These restrictions do not apply to the publicly accessible area of the model railway exhibition!

Bringing animals (including assistance animals!) and bulky items (walkers, wheelchairs, strollers/carriers, large bags/backpacks/suitcases) is unfortunately not permitted.

Please note that eating and drinking are not allowed anywhere in the exhibition area. This also applies to our backstage tours. Food and drinks brought from outside may be consumed in our designated dining areas.

  • Are the backstage tours accessible for people with disabilities?

Unfortunately not, the tours go through the narrow service corridors behind the facility, which are not wheelchair accessible.

This does NOT apply to the general exhibition area, which is wheelchair accessible.

  • Can children go on the tour alone?

The minimum age for participating in a guided tour is 6 years.

Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted to join the tour alone.

  • There are 8 of us, can't we do the tour together?

Sorry, but that's not possible. Due to the limited space behind the facility, our tours are designed for a maximum of 6 people per group, as more participants would be unable to see anything. We only make one exception: if a group of 7 people knows each other, then, exceptionally, there can be 7 people. Otherwise, the absolute limit is 6.

  • We would be one more person than there are places available on the tour, isn't that possible?

Sorry, definitely NO, asking again is pointless in this case.

The tours go through the narrow service corridors behind the facility, and with more than six guests, it's simply impossible to see everything properly. Furthermore, we promise everyone that we conduct the tours with a maximum of six people. We also don't allow inquiries on-site, because experience has shown that the other guests wouldn't be honest and would agree, even if they don't approve.

The only exception: If you are a group of seven people who all know each other, you have the option to book as a group; this is possible during the ticket booking process.

  • Can I return to Wunderland after the VR experience?

If you have booked a combination ticket, YES, because the experience is not at the beginning or end of your visit, but is intended to be a part of your visit and take place DURING your stay.

  • Is there an age limit?

We don't have a strict age limit, but rather an age recommendation:

We recommend children aged 8 and up.

We have also had 6- and 7-year-olds participate in the adventures, but this varies greatly and depends on the child's developmental stage.

If a child is afraid to be alone in an unfamiliar space or is unable to actively listen, meaning they cannot act on what they hear without assistance, then we advise against participation.

During our 10-minute adventure, you cannot help; the child must be able to complete it independently.

During our 30-minute adventure, you complete it together, but some children are afraid of the characters because they don't look like Mom and Dad.

In our experience, everything works perfectly for children aged 8 and up.

There is no upper age limit; it works well up to 65/70 years old. After that, it depends somewhat on physical and health conditions.

  • Are there any restrictions?

Unfortunately, yes, we advise people with severe photosensitivity, epilepsy, and pregnant women against participating.

Wearing glasses, however, is not a problem.

  • Is the VR experience accessible?

Unfortunately not, the technology currently in use does not yet allow people with limited mobility to participate, as they are sometimes not detected and therefore not visible to the other players in the room.
