Departure for the Caribbean

While the South America section of Miniatur Wunderland is currently in its final stages, we are already looking far ahead to our next major theme area – the Caribbean. Planning is in full swing, the first site plans have been drawn up, and the substructures and frames are already taking shape. Covering around 67 square meters, this section will immediately put visitors in a holiday mood. Warm, colorful, lively, and full of contrasts.

The Caribbean is a region with countless islands and archipelagos surrounding the Caribbean Sea, extending westward to the Gulf of Mexico. Characterized by a tropical rainforest climate, constant temperatures above 20 °C, and changing rainy seasons, this region is home to a landscape full of life. These climatic and geographical features form the basis for a model section that uniquely combines nature, culture, and atmosphere.

Iconic places & impressive landscapes

The focus is on iconic places and scenes: colorful Cuba with Havana at its heart, with colonial facades, bright colors, vintage cars on the streets, and street music that you can almost hear when you look at it. The world-famous Varadero Beach shows the Caribbean at its picture-perfect best: white sand, palm trees, and turquoise blue water. In the Bahamas, Staniel Cay is a small, protected island world that reflects nature and tranquility, including animal inhabitants such as capybaras, which have found their very own place here.

The Pitons Management Area on St. Lucia is a spectacular scenic highlight: the two striking volcanic cones Gros Piton and Petit Piton rise impressively from the landscape, surrounded by dense rainforest, geothermal fields, sulfur fumaroles, and colorful coral reefs. Volcanic soils, different vegetation zones, and an extraordinary biodiversity make this section a special challenge and a real eye-catcher on a model scale.

Atmosphere, contrasts, and new perspectives

But the Caribbean is not just about picture-postcard scenery. Realistic and thought-provoking scenes have also been deliberately incorporated into the construction: stretches of coastline littered with washed-up rubbish, polluted beaches, and the visible traces of human activity. These contrasts are just as much a part of the region as sun, sand, and the joy of life, and therefore also have their place in the new section.

Another new feature awaits visitors, both technically and atmospherically: for the first time, the attraction will be expanded to include a large, curved LED screen showing realistic sunrises and sunsets. The light changes the mood throughout the entire section, marking the beginning and end of each day and reinforcing the feeling of being in the middle of the Caribbean.

The miniature world is rounded off by cultural highlights such as the Caribbean Carnival – the second largest in the world after Rio. Colorful costumes, music, and movement bring Caribbean joy to life, while each island tells its own story of tradition and rhythm.
