The Altona Museum

When the museum was founded in 1863, Altona, along with the counties Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg, belonged to the Danish Association. Altona was its second largest city with a population of 50,000 people. Today, the museum is one of the largest regional museums in Germany. The collection, as well as the museum's field of research is cultural history of Northern Germany, especially Schleswig-Holstein and the lower Elbe area.
