The Museum of Altona
When the museum was founded in 1863, Altona together with the duchies Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg belonged to the Danish Association. Altona was its second largest city with a population of 50,000 people. Today the museum is one of the largest regional museums in Germany. The collection fields as well as the fields of research of the Museum of Altona are the cultural history of Northern Germany, especially Schleswig-Holstein and the lower Elbe area.
