The way over the Elbbrücke is 7km shorter than the alternative route over the Kohlbrandbrücke. However, the latter route is a lot more interesting.

Please listen to the traffic reports on the radio, paying special attention to traffic jams on the A255. We took pictures of crucial points, which help you to orientate yourself. You find them with the corresponding descriptions on this page.

Directions over the Elbbrücken:

Coming from Bremen on the A1, you will reach the junction Buchholzer Dreieck at approx.  kilometer 31.

Follow the freeway towards Lübeck.

Still following the freeway towards Lübeck, you will pass the Horster Dreieck and the Maschener Kreuz.

Drive straight for a good distance, until shortly after you pass the Rasthof Stillhorn, you will see the turnoff for the Autobahnkreuz Hamburg-Süd.

At the junction Hamburg-Süd, drive in the left lane and onto the A255, direction Hamburg-Centrum.

On the A255, go straight until you get to the Neue Elbbrücke (Warning: there is a speed camera installed).

At the traffic light at the end of the first bridge you turn right into the Zweibrückenstraße direction Freihafen.

Following the street, you will pass under the A255 and reach a junction, at which you turn left into the Freihafen.

Leaving the Freihafen, there is a small Customs (Zoll) house on the left, and you must go underneath a railway bridge. The Zweibrückenstraße is now called the Baakenwerder Straße on which you go straight until the end.

At the end of Baakenwerder Straße you turn left into the Versmannstraße.

Follow the Versmannstraße (it is called Brooktor in the meantime), until it is possible to turn left into the street Am Sandtorkai.

Please turn right into the street Auf dem Sande at the third intersection.

If you turn left at the next block of buildings (shortly before the bridge), you will arrive directly in front of the Miniatur Wunderland. Welcome!
