Weekly Report No 153, CW 40

From Monday, 29.09.2003 to Sunday, 05.10.2003

A dramatic week has passed! Being on the constant search for superlatives, we finally decided on a camera-eqiupped helicopter roundtrip over the Miniatur Wunderland. The cam delivered many pictures from a bird's eye view while the team of SAT1 - Spiegel TV coumented the scene under the direction of Mate Spörl. A team of 15 stood by to start immediate repair works, should the worst case have happened. The chopper was controlled by the junior of Modellbau-Borchert who are specialized in helicopter and competition flying.

A flight lesson in the Wunderland

The biggest problem during the flight was the dust that was swirled up during the flight (one wouldn't believe the locations dust is hiding in) ;-) The camera was mounted into a balsa box that was fastened underneath the chopper using rubber bands.

Having a weight of nearly 600g (the stripped chopper just weighs 1200g incl. batteries) made almost vibration-free shots possibel.

Wether or not the onboard pictures are really fit for TV braodcasting (because of the chopper dynamics and the realtively low distance to the objects) will have to be determined yet.

Oh yes: the chopper did not crash; a shot but as I think, important note....

Building America

More and more gaps in the American section are closed.

Building America

Almost daily, new square feet of plaster scenery emerge underneath the scaffolding.

The gentlemen of Mt. Rushmore

Well, well, they made it ... After Harry's better half, Sabine Kiendl, managed to carve such a fantastic model, we couldn't resist but to invite the gentlemen of Mt. Rushmore to take their place in our layout.

The desert in America

The area between Florida and Las Vegas already features a lot of greenery. One can already anticipate the presence of a desert plain.

Some details...

The center peninsula also makes progress. Detailling can soon be started here.

The Harley and the saw!

Harley-Fans will faint when they see this picture and therefore, I won' t disclose whose hands are working here.

The Harley and the saw!

Nonetheless, I make it the question of the week, since I can promise to have the solution already by next week...

The Harley and the saw!

What may trigger somebody to do such a gruel thing?

Illumination of the Central Station

The electronics department is also busy. This is an inside view of the main station building.

Test running trains in America

It always pays to be in the American section when test runs are staged. This double.header of Big Boys puts on a great show!
