Weekly Report No 8, CW 51

From Monday, 18.12.2000 to Sunday, 24.12.2000

It's christmas season! Until 23.12. we continue to build and after that we take a break until the 2.1.2001. The first material orders for the first building section are being sent out to the manufacturers and suppliers. During the next days, we await hunderds of kits from Faller, Pola, Vollmer, Kibri, and Auhagen. These kits will keep 6 people busy for the next 8 months of their lives. We use the days off to further push the planning. Gerhard Dauscher, in cooperation with Theo Eichenseher, draws up the second section. We didn't find a solution of how we are going to wire nearly 20.000 lamps on the layout, and more important, how to document them! Everything has to be planned in time, although the lamps will only become relevant in around March next year. Another job now is testing the possibilities to equip 3,000 automobiles with light! This will certainly be an absolute novelty! Every car on a road will switch its lights on at night!

While the plans are still stitched to the benchwork in the background, the first risers are already cut here.

The first riser is in! Roads and subroadbeds are prepared!

Risers are the base for the future landscape forms.

Riser for riser is added. They form the base for the future scenery. Wire mesh will be tacked to the risers. Roads and subroadbeds are glued and screwed to them.

Begin of benchwork for the 2nd section: Knuffingen

Risers are added to the 1st section while the benchwork has just started in the second section. The sections will later be connected through this wall break-through. The connection has not yet been built to provide space for the model builders.

A historic event: The first tracks!

On December 22, we see the most important part of the project for the first time: TRACK! In this area, we will stack 4 large staging areas on top of each other.

The first staging yard is in!

12 trains can be parked here in future. This way, we have a large variety on the layout.

Another staging yard...

Every free space underneath the layout will be filled with these "parking areas", enabling 400-500 trains to roar through our Miniatur Wunderland in future!
